It was quite an occasion when BMC lecturers Joe McKinney and Jacqui Berkeley welcomed Hollywood movie casting giants John and Ros Hubbard to Millfield lecture theatre recently to talk to an enthusiastic audience of Media students about the elusive art of effective casting.
The highly acclaimed husband and wife team talked about their early days casting for advertisements and how thirty years later, their business has blossomed into the globally renowned agency it is today.
In a Q and A chaired by Curriculum Centre Manager Aidan Browne, students heard how they cast The Commitments and how discovering a young Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a Cork pool hall brought them to the attention of the most talented directors of the day, ensuring that they will be working at the top of the industry for some time to come. As the famous names tripped off their tongues the faces of the students were as spellbound as the elves and hobbits they were casting for Peter Jackson’s current Lord of the Rings blockbuster! |
