Over 30 ICT Teachers from surrounding schools came to Belfast Metropolitan College to be updated on the latest modern technology trends by IT Company Momentum.
The ‘BringITon’ campaign, which is in its second year, is designed with these forecasts in mind, to inform our young people of the breadth of the career opportunities in the IT sector.
Momentum are delighted to be involved in what is proving to be a successful campaign. The aim of the ‘BringITon’ events is to communicate positive messages to pupils and dispel any stereotypes they may have about the software profession. Momentum has always had a close association with Belfast Met as in today’s environment qualifications and skills are increasingly important and they have worked with the college in the past to run a conversion course for non IT graduates called the Software Professional Course.
Northern Ireland’s ICT sector has continued to flourish despite the current economic climate, with long term forecasts predicting that 2,000 positions per annum will need filled in order to meet market demands.
Michael Noble from Momentum said,
“It’s an exciting industry to be in at the moment and we can only imagine how much more so it will be in years to come when these pupils are graduating from University and looking for their first jobs. To make sure the ICT industry continues to go from strength to strength it is imperative that the interests and passions of our younger generations are secured – showing them the variety of opportunities available and encouraging them in their choices.”
The ‘BringITon’ campaign is supported by Momentum, Invest Northern Ireland, the Department for Employment and Learning and e-skills UK. For more information see www.bringitonni.info
